just 2 weeks ago….and doing great!

Just a quick update on my mom.

Mom on East Vail bike path

Enjoying a beautiful fall day along Gore Creek.

It was two weeks ago Tuesday that she had major cervical surgery with Dr. Gill, and she is doing amazing!

She is up and moving around, with the neck brace on, with minimal pain and increased strength, sensation and balance compared with immediately prior to surgery. Each day we are increasing the amount of activity, walks along the bike path, trips to Wal-mart and City Market, even a trip to the outlet mall in Silverthorne! Last night we played a couple of balance games on the Wii & tonight we are headed to see “Alaska’s Fiddling Poet” at the Avon public library (presented by the Bookworm of Edwards.)

Mom's incision

looking great!!

She wants to thank everyone for all of the good wishes and prayers, (and of course the cards and flowers) it has been great knowing that so many people care about how she is doing. She still isn’t up to much time on the phone, or sitting and typing on the computer, but she is getting back to everyone slowly.

We are looking forward to her first follow-up appointment with Dr. Gill on the 27th, and hope to get a script for PT!

We’ll let you know more after that appointment.

      Caroline-
My mom is doing great!!! She spent just two weeks in the soft cervical collar and showed great bone healing in her xray at just 3 weeks post-surgery. She is working 3 -4 times a week with the physical therapists to slowly increase her strength and movement. She still experiences some numbness/tingling in her fingers and feet (she says it feels like having a band-aid on too tight), but that is getting better as well. Dr. Gill said that it might take up to a year to see how much will actually return, but is encouraged by the improvement she has already experienced.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read about my mom’s experiences with her surgery, I hope to be back to posting more about her recovery soon.

Best of luck with your surgery. And I encourage you to let me know how your surgery and recovery go as well….I’d love to share another story about this surgery!!
